About the Area

Did you know that Doheny State Beach is California's first state beach? The beach was donated by oil tycoon, Edward L. Doheny in 1930 and named in his honor in 1963. The beach boasts and expanse of 62 acres and includes a day use surfing beach at the northern end, and one of California's most popular campgrounds in its southern area. Explore tide pools teaming with abalone, anemone, crabs, moray eels and more! With so many sights to see, what better way to see it all than on a bike?

If you have a free hour, come rent a bike and drink in the sights. More adventurous cyclists can board rental cycles for a half day or full day and explore the entire harbor. Bike helmets and bike locks are included, ensuring a safe and well prepared trip, so feel free to stop and snap pictures or grab a sandwich at the Boneyard Café.

Learn About This Tour

Did you know Doheny State Beach is California’s first state beach? The beach and its surrounding areas are chock-full of California history. During your three- to four-hour tour, you’ll have the opportunity to stop by the San Juan Capistrano Mission, founded in 1776, and the Los Rios Historic District, the oldest neighborhood in California.

After taking off from our location at Doheny State Beach, you’ll come across the San Juan Estuary, where the mouth of the San Juan Creek meets the Pacific Ocean. Both the San Juan Creek and the Trabuco Creek are teeming with rare wildlife, including the endangered Steelhead Trout. Three different neighborhood parks line the tour route, meaning there are plenty of opportunities to relax, eat a snack, and take a restroom break along the way.
