Spotlight on Joanie’s Best Practices in Bend, Oregon

This month, we’re excited to highlight some creative and effective strategies Joanie Krehbiel, owner-operator of Wheel Fun Rentals in Central Oregon, has implemented to enhance her operations and delight her customers. Her innovative ideas focus on customer experience, sustainability, and adaptability.

Here are a few of her best practices:

Branded Drawstring Backpacks

Joanie makes the most of branded drawstring backpacks by giving them away with higher-price-point rentals like e-bike rentals and tours. This not only adds value to the rental experience but also serves as a walking advertisement for her location. Additionally, Joanie sometimes gifts these backpacks as part of VIP pass donations, building goodwill in the community and enhancing brand recognition.

Sustainable Maintenance Tags

In a sustainable and practical twist, Joanie has replaced traditional paper maintenance tags with reusable wrist coils with plastic pocket. Red are used to mark bikes requiring maintenance, while black tags identify e-bikes that have been reserved online. Not only is this solution eco-friendly, but it also prevents the issues associated with paper tags, which can tear easily or blow away in windy conditions.

Ryobi Water Mister

To keep her staff and customers cool on Bend’s hotter days, Joanie has introduced the use of a Ryobi water mister. This small investment helps ensure comfort for everyone and reflects an awareness of the changing climate. It’s a simple touch that leaves a big impression during the warmer months.
Joanie’s innovative practices demonstrate her commitment to improving operations and creating memorable customer experiences. If you’re inspired by these ideas or have your own best practices to share, we’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the conversation rolling—email us or mention them during your next one-on-one meeting.
