A-Frame, Rental Rate & Countertop Decal Installation

Decal installation is more difficult than it appears. It’s very important to follow the instructions below to ensure proper installation.

What You’ll Need:

  • a clean flat surface to work on
  • a flathead screwdriver (electric or handheld)
  • self-tapping screws (if replacement screws are needed)
  • a clean rag and cleaning solution on-hand
  • a long/flat object like a credit card or squeegee that won’t scratch the surface of the decal

Additionally – if you are removing an old graphic because it’s rough or broken up, you will need GooGone adhesive remover, rags, and a hairdryer.

Installation Instructions:

1. Remove any existing Lexan, screws, and caps (using a flat head screwdriver to remove the caps) from the sign.

2. All imperfections in the surface will show through the new decal and create a poor appearance.  If the countertop, sign, or A-Frame currently has no decal on it or the current decal is completely smooth continue to step 3.

If the sign or A-Frame has a decal on it that is rough or broken up, you will need to carefully and slowly remove the old decal. This is a difficult and timely process so you’ll want to make sure it’s absolutely necessary to remove the old decal.

Removing an old Decal:

  • Working slowly, pull up a corner of the decal, and begin to peel. It works best if you pull at a 45-degree angle.
  • A hair-dryer can help soften the adhesive, if needed, to pull up the graphic.
  • Once you have removed the decal, apply GooGone to remove any remaining residue, following the instructions on the bottle.

3. Wipe the surface of the existing sign with a damp cloth removing dirt, dust, debris, and grime. Once clean, use a single-use alcohol wipe to remove any remaining residue from the GooGone or other cleaning product used in Step 2. Allow surface to dry for a few minutes.

4. To apply the new decal, fold back the top inch of the protective backing paper, and align the top of the decal and corners into place. Smooth out using a credit card or squeegee.

5. Continue to remove the protective backing inch-by-inch to apply the decal in small increments, smoothing the decal into place as you go using a credit card or squeegee to ensure no bubbles or ripples form. You can use anything long and flat, so long as it won’t scratch the surface of the decal.

6. Once the decal is on, you will then need to gently remove the protective film on the front of the decal (if applicable).

7. For kiosk signage and A-Frames, once the decal is on, replace clean Lexan back over the sign, and replace the screws and caps.

Please let Marketing know if you have any questions on this! Again, it’s very important that we all use the proper installation method to ensure a professional look with no bubbles or rippling.
