Echo Park Lake Debuts an All-New Halloween Swan Boat Experience with Ghoulishly Green and Purple Lights and Floating Jack-o’-Lanterns Every

For Immediate Release:
October 9, 2026

Los Angeles, CA – This October, Echo Park Lake is getting a spooky new glow as Wheel Fun Rentals introduces an all-new Halloween celebration featuring monster-colored LED-illuminated Swan Boat Night Rides, a floating display of glowing jack-o’-lanterns and plenty of festive Halloween fun.

Throughout October, the iconic Swan Boats at Echo Park Lake will glow ghoulishly green and purple, transforming the lake into a colorful nighttime Halloween experience. As guests pedal across the water, a festive flotilla of illuminated jack-o’-lanterns will create a playful Halloween scene perfect for capturing photos and making seasonal memories.

The floating pumpkin display also gives a West Coast nod to a beloved New York City Halloween tradition. Central Park’s famous Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla dates back to the early 1990s and moved to the Harlem Meer in 1993, where glowing jack-o’-lanterns floating across the water became a signature seasonal spectacle. Echo Park’s new display pays homage to that tradition while creating a uniquely Los Angeles experience on one of the city’s most historic recreational lakes.

Boating itself has deep roots at Echo Park Lake. The park was established in the 1890s, and its first boathouse opened in 1896. More than a century later, the Halloween Swan Boat experience puts a colorful new spin on the lake’s long tradition of recreation on the water.

The new Halloween experience offers a unique way to celebrate the season for date nights, evenings out with friends or a fun family outing at a fraction of the cost of many ticketed Halloween attractions around Los Angeles.

Swan Boat rentals are $13 per hour for adults and just $7.50 per hour for children 17 and under, making the experience an especially affordable option for families. By comparison, many immersive Halloween and illuminated walk-through experiences throughout the greater Los Angeles area can cost $50 to $75 or more per person, depending on the event, date and ticket type.

“Echo Park Lake is already such a beautiful place to enjoy an evening, and we’re excited to give guests a whole new reason to visit this October,” said Mike Ullerick, Director of Operations for Wheel Fun Rentals. “The green and purple illuminated Swan Boats combined with the floating jack-o’-lanterns create a fun and festive Halloween experience that’s something a little different for families, couples and friends and we’re especially proud that it remains an affordable way to make a memorable night out in Los Angeles.”

Guests are encouraged to make a night of it. Pack a picnic dinner, bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, all of which are allowed aboard the swan boat, and enjoy an autumn evening in the park. VanillaBlack Café at the Echo Park Boathouse is also open for a cozy Pumpkin Spice Latte, tea, hot chocolate, or other beverage with a freshly baked treat or savory croissant sandwich, and a little extra sweetness before or after a glowing swan boat adventure.

The Halloween Swan Boat experience will be offered throughout October through Halloween, with one distinctly Los Angeles twist: on Dodgers playoff game nights, the Swan Boats will trade their ghoulish green and purple glow for Dodger blue in support of the hometown team. The floating jack-o’-lanterns will remain part of the October experience, giving guests a festive fall atmosphere whether they visit on a Halloween-themed evening or a Dodgers game night.

The combination of colorful LED lighting, glowing pumpkins and the peaceful nighttime setting makes for an experience that is festive without being frightening, perfect for Halloween fans of all ages.

Unlike traditional haunted attractions, the experience is designed to be playful and family-friendly, giving younger children, families, couples and groups of friends a way to enjoy the sights and atmosphere of Halloween without jump scares or frightening characters.

Reservations are required, and guests are encouraged to book early. Weekend evening reservations are expected to sell out, making advance planning especially important for those looking to enjoy the Halloween experience on a Friday or Saturday night.
