Rolling Along
Evaluating Storage, Product Mix & Inventory
Each fall shoulder season presents a great opportunity to take a fresh look at your storage and rental product mix. The off-season gives you the breathing room to reflect on what worked well, what did not, and how a few adjustments could set you up for an even stronger year ahead.

Start by thinking about your current storage situation. Was there enough room for everything, or did you find yourself wishing for more room for certain products? Maybe you had the right inventory, but lost time getting them out during busy periods. Storage is not only about keeping equipment safe when closed, it is also about making day-to-day operations efficient when business is at its peak.
Next, we suggest reviewing your product mix. Look back at your records and recall which products were in highest demand and which ones had lower activity than your inventory would warrant. On typical weekend days, did you run out of certain bikes or boats, leaving customers waiting or walking away? On the other hand, do you have items that underperformed, yet still take up valuable storage space? This is the time to evaluate whether your inventory aligns with customer demand and to start arranging for a better balance. Though it makes sense to still retain certain items in your fleet that rent at lower volume to round out the product mix, such as kids bikes, trailers, tandems, and such, some of these smaller products might be hung to preserve floor space.

Once you have identified your storage needs and reviewed product performance, think ahead to what changes could help next season run more smoothly. Expanding storage capacity, reorganizing layouts, or adjusting your fleet mix are all options worth exploring while your equipment is still accessible. Taking these steps now can help you avoid bottlenecks, maximize revenue, and secure inventory in advance of next season.
