Wheel Fun Rentals to Manage Como Park Mini-Golf Course in St. Paul

Como Park’s miniature golf course has a new management company.

On Wednesday, the St. Paul City Council approved a 12-page management agreement with Wheel Fun Rentals for the mini-golf course, which sits next to Como Town amusement park.

Under the agreement, Wheel Fun is expected to invest $200,000 into the golf course by the year 2020, including $20,000 upfront.

Wheel Fun operates park activities at dozens of sites across the country. In Minnesota, it oversees bicycle, kayak, canoe, stand-up paddle board and surrey rentals at Lake Como, as well as similar operations at Minnehaha Falls, Bde Maka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun), Lake Harriet and Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, Canal Park in Duluth and Veteran’s Memorial Park in Richfield.

Wheel Fun will pay the city 9 or 10 percent of its gross monthly revenue before sales tax, at a minimum of $10,000 per year. The company also must provide profit and loss statements and monthly gross receipts and expenses. Customer satisfaction surveys begin in April 2019. The contract runs through Oct. 21, 2022.

St. Paul Parks and Recreation’s longstanding lease agreement with Putt’er There Miniature Golf ended last fall and the city issued a request for proposals to find a new partner. The previous manager had run the site for nearly 25 years, but declined to reapply.
