Prepare your Fleet for Storage

It only takes a small amount of salt, grime, or moisture to cause big problems on metal surfaces when you’re getting your fleet ready for storage. You may think a small amount of rust is just unsightly, but over time, rust will eventually compromise the cycle’s structural integrity.

Make sure to complete these tasks before storing your fleet for the off-season:

Max, head mechanic at WFR Central, lubricating Surrey chains with GT85.

  • Chrome Surfaces: Use chrome polish to remove rust, and apply a good coat of wax.
  • Painted Surfaces: Touch up chips and scratches. Clean well and apply a good coat of wax.
  • Chain: Clean well and apply spray lubricant while rotating crank arm to evenly coat the chain to avoid rust. (Max, head mechanic at WFR Central, recommends GT85 lubricant.)
  • Cables: Spray lubricant into cable housing ends to displace moisture.
  • Tires: Fill all tires to 50 psi (with the exception of road bikes and hybrid bikes; you should follow psi marked on tire). If your product is stored on concrete, put carpet or cardboard under the wheels to keep the concrete from drawing the moisture out of the tires.

Make sure to protect your investment and keep your customers safe by taking the appropriate measures to prevent cold weather issues before storing your cycles.
