Annual Business Administration Review Checklist

The beginning of the year is the perfect time to review the administrative side of your business to ensure you are set up for success and growth. The new year often brings updates and changes to federal, state, and local employment law as well as contract renewals with your administrative contractors and service providers. Below you’ll find some great information on key areas we think are important to add to your annual business review checklist.

HUMAN RESOURCES & STAFFING

  • Employee File Compliance: Review file retention dates or consider an electronic file storage service to maintain them for you.
  • Minimum wage, insurance, and benefits compliance: Many states, counties, and cities have new laws in effect for minimum wage, health insurance offerings, and sick pay. Be sure to research each entity to remain in compliance. If you use a payroll processing company, they should be able to offer you assistance in these areas.
  • Review your scheduling, time clock, and payroll systems. Are they effective and efficient? Do they make complex tasks a breeze? Contact Mike@wheelfunrentals.com to learn the latest on how Wheel Fun Central handles these areas.

SAFETY & WORKERS COMP

  • Review your General Liability, property, and Workers Comp insurance policies. Do you have enough coverage? Should you adjust your deductible to better meet your premium goals? Are you receiving multiple quotes? Even if your renewal dates are in the season, you can get things rolling now.
  • Review incidents & accidents from last year. Is your Operations training program focused on safety? What can be done better to prevent the most common incidents?

ACCOUNTING & ADMINISTRATION

  • The beginning of the new year is the perfect time to review your accounting system and processes. Are they working for you? What takes the most time? Is there a better solution on the market now?
  • Review your Administrative staff & contractors. Have you been wanting to change Accountants for years, but never found the time? Does a data-entry intern make sense this year to free up some of your time?
  • Review your POS System. Do you need more Stations this year? Are your needs being met? Have you checked out Clover? Review what changes you want to make with your POS System. Plan for early deployment to make sure you’re not in a last-minute pinch. Click here for more information on the Clover POS System.
  • Review your merchant processing fees to make sure you’re not overpaying. The new trend is to “auto-renew” your current contract, but with more fees & clauses, be sure to stay on top of your processor to prevent that from happening. Shop & negotiate your rates!! Interchange plus 0% and $0.05 per transaction is where you should be. Reach out to Tara if you need a contact at Wells Fargo to give you a Wheel Fun quote (even if you don’t move forward with Clover).
