About the Area
Fairmount Park is located in the heart of Philadelphia. This expansive 4,100 acre park was originally created to provide a naturally landscaped public park while protecting and improving the purity of the Schuylkill water supply into Philadelphia.
It is home to an extensive collection of public art, is the site of the 1876 Centennial Exposition and the first zoo in the United States, the Philadelphia Zoo. Boathouse Row is a historic site located within the park, on the east bank of the Schuylkill River, just north of the Fairmount Water Works and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It consists of a row of 15 boathouses housing social and rowing clubs and their racing shells. Each of the boathouses has its own history, and all have addresses on both Boathouse Row and Kelly Drive (named after famous Philadelphia oarsman John B. Kelly, Jr)
With so much to explore, what better way to see it all than on a bike? If you have a free hour, come rent a custom cycle and drink in the sights. More adventurous cyclists can board rental cycles and confer with free maps to conduct a self-guided expedition through the park. See our tours for complete details.
